Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
What that day must have been like for our heavenly father
That Friday many, many years ago
When the precious Lamb of God was slaughtered
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
What that day must have been like for our heavenly father
Seeing his only begotten son whipped, beaten and mocked
So that you and I, could become sons and daughters
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
Seeing your child hanging up on a cross
With nails in their hands, their feet and side
So a sinful nation would not be lost
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
God looking down from above
After giving us the very best he had
After showing us a no greater love
You see there is no greater love than this
Than a man lay his life down for a friend
But we weren’t even that, we were enemies of God
We were so full of evil, we were so full of sin
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
How God feels when he looks down at this nation
A people created in the image of God
Rejecting him and his gift of salvation
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine
If Jesus the Christ had never came
And been a living sacrifice for all to see
Taking to the cross our guilt and shame
Now open your eyes and see
Our heavenly father rejoicing on that day
That Sunday morning many years ago
When Jesus got up from the grave
“Saying oh Grave where is your victory
Oh Death where is your sting
You thought you’d won, but I’ve got news for you
My father in heaven, it is he who’s still King
Now open your eyes and see
Our wonderful savior, for he has risen
Let’s say hallelujah and let us all thank God
For the beautiful gift he has given!
That gift is Jesus Christ our Lord
The one who was slain on Calvary
But rose with all power in his hands
And he set all of us captives free!
